To apply to the Florida Healthy Kids program, an online application needs to be completed. Enrollment can take place at any time of the year and the application is usually completed in about 4 to 6 weeks. The health insurance coverage will begin after the child's eligibility is determined and the first monthly payment has been received, if one is required. There are a few documents that are needed when applying, and they include the most recent tax return, or a Wage and Earning Statement, or 4 weeks' worth of the most current pay stubs. The child's social security number is also needed and one of a list of documents that prove the child's identity and citizenship.
When going through the application process, there are several different language options so that even those people that do not speak fluent English will be able to apply for health insurance coverage for their children. The online application is very easy to read with large, dark print and bit boxes to fill in the requested information. On the right side of the web page there are helpful hints and information for completing the application. At the end of each page of the application, there is the choice to save that page and continue filling out the application, or save that page and continue at another time. There are also telephone numbers provided at the very bottom of the page for those that need help and prefer to speak to a live person. TTY services are also available.
